Thoughts for each day from the Scriptures and the eight volumes of the writings of George Fox

Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God.
(Ephesians 6:13) | ||
Now is the time for you to stand: therefore put on the whole armor of God, from the crown of the head unto the soles of your feet, that you may stand in the possession of life.
(George Fox) | ||
Just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
(Revelation 15:3) | ||
For the Lord is King in his saints, He guards them, and guides them with his mighty power....in His kingdom of glory and eternal rest, where they find joy, and peace, and rest eternal. All glory and praise be to the Lord God Almighty for ever!
(George Fox) | ||
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
(Galatians 6:9) | ||
For the husbandman waits patiently, after the seed is sown; there is a winter before the summer comes... So live in patience and in peace.
(George Fox) | ||
He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
(Proverbs 18:9) | ||
Do rightly, justly, truly, holy, equally to all people in all things...and there ye are serviceable in your generation, laboring in the thing that is good, which doth not spoil, nor destroy, nor waste the creation upon the lusts.
(George Fox) | ||
That which is altogether just shalt thou follow.
(Deuteronomy 16:20) | ||
Deny yourselves, and live in the cross of Christ, the power of God, for that destroys injustice... Therefore all, of what sort so ever, or what calling soever, do justly, (whether ye be masters or servants, fathers or mothers, sons or daughters), to one another, and to all, do that which is just and righteous...in that you will have peace.
(George Fox) | ||
But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
(II Thessalonians 3:3)
Let all your cries and prayers be to the Lord in singleness of heart, in his Spirit and power, and in belief in God through Christ, to receive what ye pray for. For the Lord's ears are open to the cries of His poor and afflicted ones. So, day and night let your cries be to Him, who will keep you in all distresses.
(George Fox) | ||
The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach.
(Romans 10:8) | ||
In which light as ye wait, ye will come to receive into your hearts the word of faith, which reconciles to God, and is as a hammer, to beat down all that is contrary; and as a sword, to divide the precious from the vile; and as a fire, to burn up that which is contrary to the precious: which word is pure, and endureth forever... Therefore wait in the light, that ye may all receive it, the same word that ever was, which the Scripture were given from.
(George Fox) | ||
But God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
(Galatians 6:14) | ||
The cross...being minded...it makes a separation from all other lovers, and brings to God, and the ground of evil thoughts comes to be opened, which cross overturns the world in the heart. Which cross must be taken up by all, who follow Jesus Christ out of the world which hath an end, into the world which is without end.
(George Fox) | ||
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
(I Timothy 6:6) | ||
So every one strive to be rich in the life, and in the kingdom and things of the world that hath no end; for he that covets to be rich in the things of this world, falls into many snares, and hurtful lusts. And therefore let him that buys or, sells, or possesses, or uses this world, be, as if he did not. Let them be masters over the world in the power and Spirit of God, and let them know, that they owe no man anything but love.
(George Fox) | ||
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
(I Peter 1:16) | ||
Holiness becomes the house of God...so all God's people, His children, His Saints must be holy, as He is holy; and therefore do that which is holy and just in all your lives and conversations. And whatsoever ye do, let it be done to the praise and glory of God, (Mark that), have God's praise and glory in your eye in all your speakings and doings...
(George Fox) | ||
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
(I John 3:3) | ||
O! live in the pure hope, which purifies you as He is pure; which hope is Christ,....and so feel Christ your hope, which anchors your immortal souls, that stays it in all waves, storms, and tempests, and is sure and safe in all weathers; Christ, who is the same today as He was yesterday; so no new thing.
(George Fox) | ||
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
(Acts 4:12) | ||
For there is no salvation in any other Name under heaven, but in the Name of Jesus, whose Name is above every name under the whole heaven, who is the first born of every creature, and the first begotten from the dead, whom God now speaks to his people by, his Son; and all are to hear Him, the great Prophet; and every tongue is to confess to Christ Jesus, to the glory of God the Father, who is the First and the Last, who bruises the serpent's head. And so through Christ Jesus man and woman come again to God....
(George Fox) | ||
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle.
(Hebrews 9:11) | ||
And in the old covenant they had sanctuaries, and tabernacles, and temples, and the high priest was to light the candle and lamps in them. But in the new covenant, Christ who ends the first priesthood, and the old covenant, and abolishes the sanctuary, tabernacle, and outward temple and lamps, enlightens every man's spirit that cometh into the world, in his tabernacle or temple, with his heavenly light.
(George Fox) | ||
For this is the victory that overcometh the world even our faith.
(I John 5:4) | ||
And there is one faith, which Christ is the author and finisher of, which all must look unto Jesus for this saving, holy, precious, and divine faith, which purifieth the heart, and is the victory; in which they have access to God, in which faith they do please God.
(George Fox) | ||
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
(Philippians 2:13) | ||
Now God works in His obedient children, by His pure, holy Spirit, power, grace, and truth, both to will and to do that which is good, according to God's good pleasure... So He works righteousness, holiness, justice, truth, virtue, purity, and godliness in the hearts of men and women that obey His good Spirit.
(George Fox) | ||
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
(Proverbs 6:22) | ||
And dwelling in the light, there is no occasion at all of stumbling, for all things are discovered with the light: thou that lovest it, it is present with thee in thy bosom...and as thou liest in the bed it is present to teach thee, and judge thy wandering mind, which would wander abroad.
(George Fox) | ||
For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
(I Timothy 2:5) | ||
Now it is clear, there is but one Mediator betwixt God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who is Head of his Church... He is alone one Mediator betwixt God and man, who is the only Head of his church, and his church do testify him so to be, that are come to Jesus, their Mediator; who hath made their peace betwixt them and God, and so hath received Him; who is come, and hath given them an understanding to know Him, and they that have Him have life everlasting.
(George Fox) | ||
For the kingdom of God is....righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
(Romans 14:17) | ||
And Christ sets up His kingdom, which is everlasting, and shall never have an end, and which stands in righteousness, power and joy in the Holy ghost: so His kingdom is a holy, righteous kingdom, in his power, righteousness, and Holy Spirit, and is an everlasting kingdom and is over all kingdoms and dominions; and will never have an end; a kingdom that is established for ever, that cannot be shaken.
(George Fox) | ||
Consider the lilies and how they grow: They toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
(Luke 12:27) | ||
For the glory of the creation is the Lord's, who created it; for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof, and He gives the increase. For as Christ saith, "that Solomon, the wise man and great king, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of the lilies." So Christ set up a lily beyond and above all Solomon's glory; for the lily was arrayed of God, and every herb, and every weed, and every tree are arrayed by God with the glory they have.
(George Fox) | ||
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour and glory, and blessing.
(Revelation 5:12) | ||
And this is the glorious happiness and comfort, that all the children of the Lord in the new covenant and testament, and new and living way, did and do enjoy, which doth exceed the old covenant and testament...which is done away and abolished by Christ Jesus. So He hath taken away the first and established the second, who walks in the midst of his heavenly golden candlesticks, and is the head of his holy sanctified church, and is worthy to have glory and honour.
(George Fox) | ||
For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
(II Corinthians 3:11) | ||
The law woundeth, but the gospel healeth, and is glad tidings and good news. The law condemneth: and the gospel delivereth. And Moses accuseth: but Christ defendeth. And Moses condemneth; but Christ pardoneth. The law restraineth the hands: but the gospel restraineth the hands and the mind. And the law condemneth: but Christ saveth.
(George Fox) | ||
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
(II Corinthians 8:9) | ||
Now here you see the Son of God, and the Lord of glory, what entertainment He had at His birth, amongst them that were in the pomp of the world. You know a manger is in a stable, where you feed your horses in. And who were Mary and Christ's visitors, but the country shepherds that watched their flocks by night... Oh! the proud and lofty ones might say, this place was good enough; there was no room within for a carpenter's wife and her son...
(George Fox) | ||
She...laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
(Luke 2:7) | ||
And there the shepherds found him swaddled, lying in a manger. A poor entertainment for the Saviour of the world, and King of kings, and Lord of lords...
(George Fox) | ||
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
(Luke 2:19) | ||
And you may see...how Mary wrapped Christ in swaddling clothes, and how tender she was of the heavenly birth, conceived by the Holy Ghost. And must all true and tender Christians, that receive Him in the Spirit... She kept all the sayings that were spoken of Christ, and pondered them in her heart. And so should every true Christian.
(George Fox) | ||
My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.
(Galatians 4:19) | ||
We must not have Christ Jesus, the Lord of life, put any more in a stable amongst the horses and asses; but he must now have the best chamber, the heart...
(George Fox) | ||
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle....
(II Timothy 2:24) | ||
...be careful how ye set your feet among the tender plants that are springing up out of God's earth, lest ye tread upon them, hurt them, bruise them, or crush them in God's vineyard.
(George Fox) | ||
God is love. | ||
(I John 4:16) | ||
For love overcomes, and builds up and unites all the members of Christ to him, the Head; for love keeps out of all strife, and is of God; and love and charity never fail, but keep the mind above all outward things, or strife about outward things; and is that which overcomes evil, and casts out all false fears; and is of God, and unites all the hearts of His people together in the heavenly joy, concord, and unity.
(George Fox) | ||
Thy right hand upholdeth me.
(Psalm 63:8) | ||
All my dear friends and brethren in the Lord Jesus Christ, who by His eternal arm and power, hath supported, upheld, and preserved you steadfast to Himself; so that neither reproaches, imprisonments, nor spoiling of your goods, to the almost ruining you outwardly; and besides long and tedious imprisoning of you, and many to death. And yet all these persecutors could not make you turn from Christ, your life.
(George Fox) | ||
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him.
(Psalm 62:8) | ||
And so feel Him at all times, and stand in His will; do not murmur nor complain, but stand still in the faith and power of God, that you may see your salvation.
(George Fox) | ||
Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not.
(Ecclesiastes 12:1) | ||
Take heed of pleasures, and prize your time now while you have it...look at the love of God now while you have time... Oh! consider, time is precious; fear God and rejoice in Him who made heaven and earth.
(George Fox) | ||
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
(Psalm 90:12) | ||
And now, do not say but you are all warned in your lifetime; and therefore prize your time, while you have it, that you spend it to the honor and glory of God.
(George Fox) | ||
